Project: Design a logo and backing card packaging for a programmable electronic parking aid called ‘Park Alert’. The graphics were to be bold and friendly but also communicate a sense of urgency. This was a rush project compounded by the fact that the product didn’t actually exist yet.

The only tangible reference available was a circuit board and the direction that the final product would be circular and similar in size to a smoke alarm. Since the ‘prototype’, packaged item was to be displayed and handled at a trade show, flat concept renderings were not a viable option. My 11th hour solution was to sculpt a concept design by hand in quick hardening clay to represent how the exterior casing might look. The circuit board with its speaker and LEDs was incorporated inside the sculpt and painted white with a desktop printed decal glued in place. A generic DC transformer was sourced from an electronics store and a quick vacu-formed clear plastic blister created in my studio to tie all the 3-dimensional elements together. Unfortunately, the only reference photos of the finished prototype were taken straight on and don’t fully reveal the curved, organic sculpting details I incorporated into the casing design.
