Project: This was a great design assignment that allowed me the opportunity to present a creative solution utilizing the actual product as the basis for its advertising campaign. The newly formed company was exploring innovative methods of die cutting their partitions (box packaging dividers) used to protect & separate various products during shipping.

At the time, corrugated board was a viable alternative to the industry standard of particle paper board and CPI needed to advertise the advantages of their product. Since the print run on all the marketing material was minimal, I came up with the idea that we could actually use corrugated board as the medium upon which we would print or present the graphics & information.
The logo was finalized first and the chosen design uses a typeface with bold, flowing qualities that reflect the shaping & die-cutting characteristics of corrugated board. The vertical graphic is a stylized side view of the corrugated product. Business cards were silk screened in 2 colours on the smooth, flat side of an ‘open face’ corrugated sheet and cropped to size. The exposed card-back unmistakably presented the properties of the corrugated board.
Single-fold, 11 x 17” brochures were created in a similar fashion using digital colour copies mounted to closed-face corrugated board, hand cut to emphasize the die-cut notches found in box partitions. These specifically placed notches are a top priority in partition manufacturing, as they determine accurate insertion of each partition into boxes by automatic machinery. This major selling point had to be evident in the presentation and the brochures successfully communicated that fact.
There was a lot of manual labour involved in the cutting and assembly of this project but the end result was well worth it. The marketing materials were well received and surpassed the client’s expectations: Bringing in a substantial amount of new business.
