Home   Project: Label creation for a children’s Echinacea tincture. During the initial brief, I suggested including the ‘Astaire Bear’ character I had created previously for a similar Swiss children’s product as part of the design.

Alternate design for Triple Blend product variation with new airbrushed artwork.

Although the tincture was formulated for children between the ages of one to twelve, the liquid was primarily aimed at the parents of younger kids to whom a bear would be a comforting image. The child-like ‘Kids’ brand logo streamlined the design towards the products’ younger market as well.
As the design evolved, more visual and text elements were added at the suggestion of Swiss’ marketing department and the layout became somewhat busier than I’d anticipated. A healthy, non-gender specific child and an echinacea flower were requested to be part of the illustration along with some extra text accenting some of the tincture’s properties. I’m really pleased with my traditional media airbrush rendering of the healthy looking child, although much of the detail is lost on the final label which measures only 2 inches high.
The product line was later expanded to include 2 new flavours in a Triple Blend format. The layout was redesigned slightly to incorporate additional text and new airbrush artwork created to fit a tighter live area.
Considering the complexity and overall busyness of the front panel, the major graphics still manage to grab the viewer’s attention, identifying the product and its target group.
